Summerland School is perched high on a hill in the tiny seaside town of Summerland, CA, and is the smallest elementary school in the Carpinteria Unified School District. Nestled on less than an acre, it is the jewel of public schools. Summerland School consistently ranks at the top of the Academic Performance Index scores not just in Santa Barbara County, but across the entire state. Founded in 1890, it serves K-5 grades in three classrooms (K/1, 2/3, and 4/5) today. Combined grades, a dedicated and talented staff, and support from parents inside and outside the classroom is our recipe for success. At a time when small neighborhood schools seem to have all but disappeared, Summerland School remains committed to providing the highest quality education in a nurturing environment. Our K-5 public school offers a dazzling vista in a neighborhood setting. Summerland School has educated students for more than one hundred years and is a bedrock of the community. Our symbiotic relationship with the town of Summerland benefits all as, we share our culture of giving and community awareness with the larger Carpinteria/Summerland area. We are committed to the intellectual growth of our children as well as the cultural growth of our community.
Involved Parents
Parents for Summerland
Parents for Summerland (PFS) is a volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves as the fund-raising arm of the school. We organize three main fundraisers per year: the Jog-A-Thon in the fall, the Wine 'n Waves Community Event, and the All-School Play in the spring. Smaller fundraisers are often created for special projects throughout the year.
With shrinking state budgets school administration relies on parent groups to help bridge ever-widening funding gaps. Parents contribute hundreds of volunteer hours each year to raise the funds to help pay for PE instruction, music, art, field trips, classroom supplies, library books, etc. They also invest time and energy to maintain our school library, assist in the classrooms, drive on field trips, organize special events, and beautify the campus!

PFS has an operating budget of approximately $55,000 per year.
These dollars are raised from family, friends, local businesses, and community members to support the children in the following programs:
