While the arts are disappearing from so many public schools nationwide, Parents for Summerland (PFS) is committed to raising funds to enhance enrichment programs to the children at Summerland School. Your tax-deductible donation will help us continue to offer these programs.
Second through fifth grade students enjoy instrumental music instruction every week. Second and third grade students learn to play the recorder; fourth and fifth grade students choose an instrument. The music curriculum not only teaches students how to read, write, and perform music notation, but also the role that music plays in society.
Kindergarten through fifth grade students receive art
instruction throughout the year and are able to showcase
their work in local settings throughout the town as well
as in the greater Santa Barbara area.
Each Spring, the students prepare for the whole school musical when they joyfully sing in their classrooms, during recess, and at home. This program gives children a chance to develop their voice through public speaking, singing, and acting. Past productions include: The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, Annie, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The children are always excited to close the year with a wonderful performance for their parents, teachers, and community.
The garden program helps children develop a more focused
interest in the garden, while providing a rich environment
to learn about science, math, biology, and art. Every student
receives weekly garden instruction. Lessons range from
soil composition and composting to beneficial insects, botanical illustration, garden design and plant anatomy.
Your support and contributions will enable us to
meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous
donation will fund our mission to provide continual improvement to elementary education.
