Learning is easier when you have an excellent teacher. Our committed staff provide a stimulating and cooperative environment in which children become well informed, imaginative, and effective decision-makers capable of working independently and collaboratively. Students are encouraged to take risks and try their best through meaningful tasks and projects. Because of Summerland's small size, students are able to support one another in their academic and social growth. Our faculty are passionate about the subjects they teach and bring their enthusiasm into their lessons.

Summerland School is perched high on a hill in the tiny seaside town of Summerland, CA, and is the smallest elementary school in the Carpinteria Unified School District. Nestled on less than an acre, it is the jewel of public schools. Summerland School consistently ranks at the top of the Academic Performance Index scores not just in Santa Barbara County, but across the entire state. Founded in 1890, it serves K-5 grades in three classrooms (K/1, 2/3, and 4/5) today. Combined grades, a dedicated and talented staff, and support from parents inside and outside the classroom is our recipe for success.

At a time when small neighborhood schools seem to have all but disappeared, Summerland School remains committed to providing the highest quality education in a nurturing environment. Our K-5 public school offers a dazzling vista in a neighborhood setting. Summerland School has educated students for more than one hundred years and is a bedrock of the community. Our symbiotic relationship with the town of Summerland benefits all as, we share our culture of giving and community awareness with the larger Carpinteria/Summerland area. We are committed to the intellectual growth of our children as well as the cultural growth of our community.
While the arts are disappearing from so many public schools nationwide, Parents for Summerland (PFS) is committed to raising funds to enhance enrichment programs to the children at Summerland School. Your tax-deductible donation will help us continue to offer these programs.

Stay tuned as exciting changes are coming soon to the Summerland School campus as our teachers, administrators and PFS begin talks with Explore Ecology to bring back the beloved Garden Program to our Summerland students.

Each Fall, the students prepare for the all school musical by joyfully singing in their classrooms, during recess, and at home. This educational program selects subject matter that aligns with school curriculum and gives children a chance to develop their voice through public speaking, singing, and acting. Past productions include: "Gold Dust or Bust," "The American Revolution," and "13 Colonies". The children are always excited to produce a wonderful performance for their parents, teachers, and community.

We are currently working to expand our library offerings with the help of our dedicated and enthusiastic librarian, Mrs. Damron. In September 2025, we held our inaugural Read-A-Thon to raise funds for this important resource.

Summerland teachers have begun implementation of Mystery Writing - a complete, standards-aligned program that is differentiated for all K-5 students. This writing instruction program gets kids excited about writing with a research-based model that is engaging to all students! PFS is happy to support our teachers as this program develops.

Kindergarten through fifth grade students receive art
instruction utilizing the Art in Action program throughout the year. Students are able to showcase
their work in local settings, including the Carpinteria Arts Center in the Spring.

Your support and contributions will enable us to
meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous
donation will fund our mission to provide continual improvement to elementary education.
